Many more visually-impaired people could benefit.

On Friday afternoon, John Baron visited the studio of Wickford and District Talking Newspaper at the George Hurd Centre, Audley Way, Basildon as part of Volunteers Week [1st- 7th June]. John discussed issues with local stalwarts Sally Webb [Chairman] and Mike Ballinger [Volunteer] before reading some news for a tape to be sent to local residents.

John said:

“Many visually – impaired people greatly value this local service, and describe it affectionately as being like a bunch of friends coming for a chat – its their window on the world. We can sometimes forget just how lonely sight-impairment can make people feel.”

“This great service provided by 40 volunteers, reaches out to hundreds of local people across Basildon, Billericay and Wickford, but we know there are many more who could benefit. If you know of anyone who may, then Wickford Talking Newspaper would be delighted to hear from you.”
